COVID-19 Testing
MainStreet Family Care offers three types of COVID-19 testing: the viral swab test (PCR), COVID-19 rapid test, and antibody test.
PCR Viral Swab Test
The PCR test uses a nasal swab to help determine if you currently have the COVID-19 virus in your body. Test results take longer to get back but are the most accurate out of all the Covide-19 tests.
Rapid Antigen Test
The rapid test also uses a nasal swab to determine if someone has COVID-19. The rapid antigen test results can immediately be given to you in the office but cannot detect tiny traces of the virus.
Antibody Test
The antibody test can tell you if you had COVID-19 in the past. The test is typically a blood test. You can learn more about this type of test on the antibody testing page.
How Long Does it Take to Get Test Results?
COVID-19 rapid antigen test results are processed in less than 20 minutes. PCR and Antibody test results are typically available in 3-7 days. Someone will call you with the test results as soon as they are available.
How To Prepare For COVID-19 Testing
- Please wear a mask if you come to the clinic for a test. Wearing a facemask is the best way to limit any potential spread.
- If you are experiencing symptoms, we will test you for COVID-19 and other infections if needed.
- The COVID-19 rapid swab test takes up to 20 minutes to process, and you will have your results before you leave the clinic.
- The PCR and Antibody test results are typically available in 3-7 days. Our clinic will contact you with ready results.
COVID-19 Treatment
MainStreet Family Care currently offers one type of treatment for COVID-19. If you tested positive, you could be eligible to take the Paxlovid pill.
COVID-19 Prescription
The Paxlovid pill has authorization by the FDA and is the latest treatment for those considered high risk for COVID-19. Paxlovid can be prescribed to anyone 12 and older who weighs at least 88 pounds. This form of treatment can be taken at home and is a form of antiviral therapy. Paxlovid is taken twice a day for five days and works best within the first five days of COVID-19 symptoms.
